Frieda & Faron

a girl with red curly hair wearing a pink dress holding a grey cat

FIRST APPEARANCE:

Frieda – March 6, 1961
Faron – May 24, 1961

The first thing you notice about Frieda is her naturally curly hair (if you don’t notice it, don’t worry—she’ll make sure to tell you all about it). When she’s not talking about herself or her naturally curly hair, she can often be seen playing outfield for Charlie Brown’s baseball team, planting flowers on his pitcher’s mound, or admonishing Snoopy for lying on his doghouse instead of chasing rabbits. Frieda’s near boneless cat, Faron, is known for his complete and utter lack of motion, which may explain why Frieda is so keen on keeping Snoopy active.

DID YOU KNOW:

"I suppose I introduced her [Frieda] to pep up the strip."

"The cat [Faron] was a mistake. First, I found I couldn't draw a cat very well. Second, he played off poorly against Snoopy, making the strip too 'cat-and-doggish.' It hurt in other ways as well, so I'm afraid Faron is gone forever...He is now invisible, that 'cat next door' - and as such can play off better against Snoopy." Charles M. Schulz
